GOVERNOR HOCHUL’S CHRISTMAS DAY MESSAGE

Hits: 387

New York State logo

I wanted to take a moment to wish you a very Merry Christmas. I know the pandemic has been difficult for every New Yorker, and as we continue to navigate COVID and its variants, there’s fatigue, uncertainty, and fear. I understand, and that’s why we’re working so diligently to help everyone stay safe.

Despite the challenges we face, this holiday season, I’m also filled with hope and optimism.

Every single day, I’m reminded of the strength, compassion, and resilience of the people living in this state. You’ve endured so much — and you keep moving forward.

From the essential workers who put their health on the line to keep us safe, to the small business owners, to the parents and teachers who worked so hard to give our kids a great education in exceptional circumstances, and to so many others, I am so grateful for each and every one of you this holiday season.

We’ve learned throughout this crisis that we truly are all in this together. There’s so much more that unites us than divides us.

I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that New York is going to come back stronger than ever. There is no better time to reflect on this moment of great opportunity than on Christmas. At the end of the day, this holiday is all about love, and family, and the beginning of a time when the world began to rethink what was possible.

So today, I want to thank you for all that you’ve done and will do to keep each other safe this holiday season. Get vaccinated and boosted. Talk to that loved one who hasn’t been vaccinated yet and make sure they do. Wear your mask and get tested.

The collective spirit of New Yorkers is the reason our state’s future is so bright. That’s why I am honored and so humbled to be your governor. From my family to yours, and on behalf of New York State, Merry Christmas.

Governor Kathy Hochul

IT’S NOT WHAT JESUS PROMISED. IT’S WHAT HE DID AND BEGAN, 2,021 YEARS AGO

WPCNR NEWS AND COMMENT. By John F. Bailey. December 24, 2021:

20161225christmas 008

WPCNR NEWS & COMMENT. By John F. Bailey. December 25, 2020:

It has been approximately 2,021 years since a confluence of bright stars guided three kings to the town of Bethlehem to pay respects to a “newborn king.”

This antique set which has been in my family for 75 years or so, commemorates that night (tonight) this day.

Since the day the baby, Jesus, was born in a stable, which was provided as a charity by the owner of the inn in Bethlehem, the baby’s deeds He was to achieve and His philosophy of loving your fellow man and woman that took root in a hostile world that was a world of subjugation, genocide, enslavement, and oppression — with violence.

A lot like today.

Religious beliefs aside.

Jesus may be the most influential man of all time, considering how his message of concern, respect, and kindness towards your fellow man and woman was unique at the time he lived and spread throughout the world without violence.

We would all do well, if when considering how to treat each other, make a decision, what would Jesus do?

I daresay the world would be a much better place. I also should like to point out that Jesus’s message was not follow me and you will have eternal life, though he did say that–his main message was to love one another and be compassionate, helpful, and respectful towards those less fortunate than you.

It made so much sense.

I set it up the display this year because I missed it over the years. Remember it is not what Jesus offered…it was what He did that spread his message around the world without violence

There was no CNN, No Fox News, showing live coverage, no internet, no newspapers, radio or television. No Twitter or Facebook. No Instagram,Skype, or Google.

Nevertheless the message of the man who died on Calvary (The Place of the Skull) spread around the world without mass communication.

His followers, twelve of them were so devoted to His message of love and code of behavior they became the first pacifist activists who spread a message the man they called their Lord had preached to them.

He was Jesus of Nazareth.  He had no last name.

Today He is now known all over the world for the message he delivered.

Whether you believe He is the Son of God, or not, He ranks as one of the foremost influences on mankind. More than Plato, more than Socrates, more than any leader or politician, or entertainer whoever lived.

His selfless acts of embracing lepers, the poor, those who sinned were unique.

Such compassion for the downtrodden was unheard of during the time He lived.

It was a time of slavery. No human rights. No care for the sick. When cities were razed and populations slaughtered or enslaved much like the genocides of the twentieth century.

Jesus of Nazareth introduced a new philosophy that spread throughout the world after because the community leaders of his own people thought him a threat to their power. And that fear that this simple man was a threat should be a lesson to us all.

If you live by His philosophy of forgiveness you are a person at peace with yourself. If you accept those who are different from you without  fear or prejudice, you are a force for spreading His message of peace towards others and good will.

If you help the poor and the sick because you sympathize with them, you are following His way.

If you stand up for truth, point out what is wrong as He did with the Pharisees. You are doing his will.

If you go about doing good for the sake of doing good, you are following His virtue of selflessness.

Jesus of Nazareth’s message whether divine or a code of how we conduct our lives resonated with millions and it spread.

There is no denying He is one of the great philosophers of the human experience, kin to Socrates, the other giant of antiquity thought.

Jesus of Nazareth was a human being who affects us to this day.

One of the great gifts of this man, Jesus of Nazareth, is the celebration of humanity and capacity to care and feel for others that aids persons whether they believe He was the Son of God or not. Or that you will have eternal life if you believe in him.

His philosophies of care, courage, compassion and benevolent action serve their practioners well because they leave a great personal satisfaction in the heart, the mind, and the spirit.

You do not have to second guess yourself, when you do what is right, humane, merciful, and serves the less fortunate without superiority with nothing to gain for yourself. And if you do not do what is right, if you weaken, you always regret it and remember when you failed to do right.

The peace of mind of action is the least of the  great gifts of Jesus of Nazareth whose birth is recognized worldwide this night.

If you act as Jesus did, you will be remembered by all you meet fondly and lovingly, and be comforted that you will live in memories of those you have  touched with your love and kindness and caring  for eternity to the end of the age.

His simple teachings have great power. Use them. Implement them.

They give meaning to our mystery of life.

They give meaning and purpose to anyone’s life.

For 2,021 years He in his sweet, short life made a violent world a better place.

Westchester continues to spread covid significantly more than all the Mid-Hudson region counties.

ASSEMBLYMAN CHRIS BURDICK ON COVID SURGE

Hits: 193

WPCNR THE LETTER TICKER. December 22, 2021:

Dear Friends,

The rising number of COVID-19 cases in both Westchester and across the state is extremely concerning. I have been in touch with the Governor’s office, advocating for the distribution of free home test kits, a return to drive-through testing facilities, and to make boosters more readily available.

I know that dealing with the surge in cases is of utmost importance to the Governor (who recently announced new funding to help counties deal with their COVID-19 response), and I will continue to keep the community posted as additional pandemic-related information is made available.

Meanwhile, the best way to stay safe in the face of this surge is to continue to wear a mask – especially in indoor public spaces – and to get yourself vaccinated and boosted.

If you have not yet been vaccinated, I urge you to do so right away. If you are vaccinated and eligible for a booster, please get it. The vaccine and boosters are widely available at state-run locations and through many pharmacies and health care providers. The Governor also recently announced that 40 pop-up vaccine sites have opened across the state to fight the winter surge.

For those looking for the pediatric Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11,

the state has opened a pediatric site at Westchester Medical Center’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital (please click here to schedule an appointment)

The County will also be holding a clinic for children ages 5-11 to receive their first Pfizer pediatric dose on December 28 from 2:00-6:30 pmAppointments are necessary and can be made here.

MAYOR ROACH WARNS OF SHARP INCREASE IN COVID CASES IN WHITE PLAINS. MAYOR REPORTS HE TESTED POSITIVE BUT HAS ONLY LIGHT SYMPTOMS OF COVID. “SNIFFLES.” CITY HALL CLINIC FOR VACCINATIONS SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 28

Hits: 29

WPCNR MAIN STREET JOURNAL From the City of White Plains, Mayor’s Office. December 21, 2021:

In a Tuesday telephone robocall to the citizerns of White Plains, Mayor Thomas Roach reported a sharp rise in active covid cases in Whitr Plains. Here is a transcript of that call:

“We are continuing to see an increase in the number of COVID cases in our city and in Westchester County.

There are currently 481 active cases in White Plains. Today, 65 new cases were reported.

White Plains Hospital reports under 20 COVID hospitalizations at this time and they are continuing to perform elective procedures. This disparity is due to the high number of vaccinated individuals in our community who are far less likely to suffer serious illness or be hospitalized than those who are not.

I am a case in point. As many of you know, I recently tested positive and I can tell you it was good to know that I had already taken the steps necessary to protect myself.

I have had limited symptoms, essentially mild nasal congestion. I credit the vaccines and booster I received for preventing more serious illness. I am extremely grateful for all the well wishes I have received, Thank you, White Plains!

The Omicron variant is highly contagious, it is essential that if you are already vaccinated you get your booster as soon as possible as it increases your protection significantly!

The City will host a clinic on Tuesday, December 28th from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at City Hall. We will be offering booster doses as well as first and second doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to White Plains residents. In order to participate in this free clinic, you must register in advance. The registration link is posted on the City website, cityofwhiteplains.com, as well as on our Facebook and twitter pages.

The Governor’s order requiring that masks be worn in all indoor public places unless the business or venue implements a vaccine requirement remains in effect statewide.

Even if you are vaccinated, mask wearing is an effective way to reduce your risk. Masks such as the n95 and Kn95, when worn properly, can provide greater protection than a simple paper or cloth mask and I encourage you to make use of them to protect yourself.

Due to the Christmas holiday, all City offices will be closed on Friday, December 24th As a result, if you live on a Monday / Thursday garbage collection route, your trash will be picked up tomorrow. If you live on a Tuesday / Friday garbage collection route, your trash will be picked up on Thursday. There will be no paper recycling this week. Paper recycling will resume on Wednesday, December 29th. Happy holidays!

Keep safe, get boosted, wear your masks! On to a better year 2022!

______________________________________________________________________________

WHITE PLAINS SCHOOL DISTRICT REPORT FROM SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS–REMARKS ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABUSE BY STUDENTS: SEVERE CONSEQUENCES. CONGRATIULATES STUDENTS AND PARENTS ON THE FIRST HALF OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

Hits: 3774

WPCNR THE LETTER TICKER. DECEMBER 21, 2021:

Happy Holidays from the WPCSD!

Yes, as you know, we are still addressing the lingering challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Still – we are winning!

We know that COVID-19 will continue to be a fact of life into the future, and we will not allow that to hinder our progress as we continue to educate our 7,000+ students.  Although as predicted, we are seeing an increase in case numbers, our students are producing excellent results and we are so proud of our school community! \

In collaboration with White Plains Hospital, we are now hosting vaccination clinics for 5-11-year-old students, family members and those in need of initial vaccination.  In fact, one of our first graders was the winner of a full scholarship to any SUNY/CUNY college/university in a statewide lottery of children who are being vaccinated! Imagine that – 1st grade and our Tiger already has a ‘full ride’ to college!

This has been another complex year.

There can be no doubt that we live in difficult times, and in the interest of continued transparency, we want to share a message with you that we delivered to our school community recently, affecting the safety and security of our children.

We have experienced two instances of students making threats on social media.

Although neither of these were a credible danger to our community, we, in conjunction with the White Plains Police Department, will always take any threat seriously and we will intervene immediately.

We urge you to help us deliver the message that the responsible use of social media is critically important.  Safety and security are our first priorities and disciplinary consequences will be severe.

These decisions to misuse social media can impact a child’s entire lifetime. Our message to our Tigers can be found HERE

You may also be interested in watching a documentary, “The Social Dilemma,” on this topic.  Here’s the link:  https://www.netflix.com/title/81254224

Of course, it’s December and that means college acceptances are starting to roll in.  So far, our students have been admitted to St. John’s University, SUNY Buffalo, Yale University, SUNY Albany, Indiana University, Cornell University, Temple University, Iona College, Penn State and more.  We congratulate our seniors and look forward to learning of more acceptances as we move through the academic year.

Our student athletes are also keeping us #WPProud, with 172 students named Scholar-Athletes for the fall season at the December Board of Education Meeting.   Teams honored include Football, Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country, Field Hockey, Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer, Girls’ Tennis, Girls’ Volleyball, Girls’ Swimming & Diving and Cheerleading.  Several teams won League championships and five swimmers, one diver, and one cross-country runner represented White Plains in the State Championships.  One swimmer placed first and was named All American.  We have a whole lot to be proud of in the WPCSD!

Finally, we wish you a wonderful, safe, and healthy holiday season! As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments and/or concerns!

Respectfully,

Joseph Ricca

WESTCHESTER COUNTY APPROACHES 6,000 TO 7,000 NEW INFECTIONS BY CHRISTMAS DAY. 16,000 MORE THE FIRST WEEK OF THE NEW YEAR. CAUTION, MASKING, VACCINATING ADVISED. ABSOLUTE MUST.

THE COVID LOG.

WPCNR CORONAVIRUS BULLETIN. By John F. Bailey December 21, 2021:

Two weeks ago – the amount of time it takes for persons testing positive for covid to show symptoms and test for Covid infections–Westchester County had  395 new covid infections on December 6.  This daily Covid Count escalated to the high 400s a day by the end of that week.

At that time, those infected were (based on previous weeks) infecting 3.5 other persons.

In the 14 days since that December 5 date, the number of daily infections has  DOUBLED (rising growing to 733 a day average, with most recent highs of December 15, 16, and 17 of 983, 904, and 983 through Friday, December 17.

The  persons infecting each other last week  divided into the number of new infections each day from  December 6 through  December 11 was 2.7 or 3 persons infected for every new positive back through December 5 through Saturday December 11.

It is now   two weeks later.

Here is what we can expect in infections each day this Christmas Week based on the new infections each  day two weeks ago infecting 3 people

DEC 5      DEC 6      DEC    7     DEC   8      DEC  9      DEC    10      DEC  11    TOTAL

280          395           366           441           497             459                350         2,791

THIS WEEK DEC 19– 25 AT 3 PERSONS (2.7) INFECTED BY  TOTAL INFECTEES  2 WEEKS AGO ESTIMATED

DEC 19     DEC 20      DEC 21    DEC 22       DEC  23     DEC  24       DEC 25       NEW INFECTION EST.

  756            1,066           988        1,190          1,341         1,239          945             7,525   THIS WEEK

On Saturday, December  18, WESTCHESTER HAD 957 NEW INFECTIONS, ENDING AT 5,397 FOR THE WEEK ending Saturday, the 18th.

The 5,397 new infections through those 7 days the 12th to the 18 divided by 1,960 new infections the week of November 28 through December 4 (Thanksgiving aftermath) two weeks ago shows that the  ratio of 1 new infection infects 2.7 new persons still holds. But many more are testing positive. Lines for tests at testing centers are long.

Unless the contagiousness of the covid omicron variant (pointed to as the reason for the “explosion” of new Covid cases, developed since the Thanksgiving Holiday, County Executive George Latimer described yesterday) means the 5,397 persons infected two weeks could generate 16,200 new cases January 2 through  January 8 in two weeks time.

It is out of control, unless you and me make the effort to control the spread, by getting vaccinated if not vaccinated yet and socializing farther away with the mask on. The infections are rising at the rate of 1,000 a day.

Tonight, I expect the new infections data for the county for Sunday .

THE JOHN BAILEY WHITE PLAINS REPORT ON “THE DENNIS AND TONNY GOOD MORNING WESTCHESTER” THIS MORNING

Hits: 280

JOHN BAILEY, TheCitizeNetReporter
broadcasrts live Tuesdays on “Dennis and Tonny’s Good Morning Westchester”,
at 7:50 A.M. for the last 7 Years. Here is the transcript of this morning’s report

“GOOD MORNING, DENNIS AND TONNY, IT’S FEELING A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS, 25 DEGREES AND CLEAR WITH STARS IN THE SKY AND A FULL MOON THIS MORNING WHEN I GOT UP.

THE COLD REMINDS OF BEING A KID GROWING UP IN PLEASANTVILLE NEW YORK WHEN EVERY CHRISTMAS, BEING A MEMBER OF THE PLEASANTVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MILITARY BAND, IT’S LEADER WILBUR LOCKWOOD ON THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS PULLED TOGETHER VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE BAND, I WAS ONE OF THEM TO PLAY AT THE GIANT OLD PINE TREE ON THE CIRCLE AT MANVILLE ROAD TO PROVIDE ACCOMPANIMENT FOR CHURCH CAROLERS SING THE SONGS OF CHRISTMAS. THE NIGHTS WERE ALWAYS CHILLING, AND CAROLERS’ BREATHS FROZE AND DRIFTED UP IN THE NIGHT AIR. MY TROMBONE SLIDE HAD TO BE OILED WITH VASELINE TO PREVENT THE SLIDE FROM FREEZING. LAST NIGHT BROUGHT BACK THOSE MEMORIES.

I EVEN HUNG UP CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON MY SMALL GROVE OF SIX PINE TREES OUTSIDE WHEN BRENDA STARR, MY EDITOR DISCOVERED OLD LIGHTS FROM LAST YEAR— AFTER SHE TOLD ME SHE COULD NOT FIND THEM AND I HAD WENT BACK TO THE HARDWARE STORE TWICE TO GET NEW LIGHT STRINGS FOR THE REAL CHRISTMAS TREE.

DAN SEIDEL FILES STIPULARTION OF WITHDRAWAL FROM FASNY APPEAL. AWAITS OPPOSITION LAWYERS SIGNING IT.

NOW TO THE HARD NEWS, DAN SEIDEL, THE CRUSADER FOR TRUTH JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY WITH CLAUDIA JAFFEE RAN OUT THE STRING ON THE FRENCH AMERICAN SCHOOL OF NEW YORK NEW SCHOOL CAMPUS PLAN AT RIDGEWAY COUNTRY CLUB FORCING FASNY TO SELL THE PROPERTY, BY SUCCESSFULLY PERSUADING THE APPELLATE COURT IN BROOKLYN TO HEAR THE APPEAL.

SEIDELL FILED A STIPULATION OF WITHDRAWAL AS PLAINTIFF APPELLENT ON THE ENVIRONMENT PORTION OF THE APPEAL MONDAY.HE AND JOHN SHEEHAN OF THE GEDNEY ASSOCIATION HAVE SIGNED IT AND MR. SEIDEL FILED IT WITH THE APPELLATE COURT MONDAY. NOW THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS AND THE LAWYERS FOR THE FRENCH AMERICAN SCHOOL OF NEW YORK MUST ALSO AGREE AND SIGN THE WITHDRAWAL TO END THE APPEAL.

THE CITY AND THE FRENCH AMERICAN SCHOOL APPEAR TO BE BALKING RIGHT NOW AT SIGNING IT, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NO PLANS TO BUILD THE OLD PROJECT AND A NEW PLANNING PROCESS AND PROPOSAL BY THE NEW OWNER OF THE PROPERTY HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED ALL OVER AGAIN. MR. SEIDEL ARGUES THE ISSUE IS MOOT AND ARGUING THE ENVIRONMENTAL APPEAL (AS WELL AS THE MANDATE RESTRICTION VALIDITY WASTES THE APPELLATE COURT TIME SINCE THE PLAN IS DEAD.

THE ISSUE I BELIEVE IS IN THE INTEREST OF THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS AND SOME MEMBERS OF THE GEDNEY ASSOCIATION IS THE CITY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MANDATE THAT REQUIRES NO INSTITUTION BE BUILT ON THE PROPERTY DECLARED AS NOT APPLICABLE BY THE APPELLATE COURT. SUCH A DECISION SHOULD THE APPELLATE COURT THROW OUT THE AUTHORITY OF THE MANDATE WOULD MAKE CASE LAW FOR RESTRICTIONS ON WHAT COULD BE DONE ON PROPERTIES EXCHANGING OWNERS NOT APPLYING IN LAND SALES AND LAND USE PROPOSALS EXCEPT ZONING IN THE FUTURE. THAT IS A HUGE ADVANTAGE TO SELLING A PROPERTY.

THE 2ND PART OF THE SUIT, THE MANDATE RESTRICTION VALIDITY, IS STILL IN PLAY BY SOME MEMBERS OF THE GEDNEY ASSOCIATION WHO MAY NOT REALIZE THE APPELLATE COURT COULD THROW OUT DEED RESTRICTIONS OF THE PAST CARRYING CONDITIONS OF TRANSFER OF ANY PROPERTY TO NEW OWNERS THAT COULD HINDER AND AS IN THE CASE OF THE FRENCH AMERICAN SCHOOL OF NEW YORK FRUSTRATE THEIR PLANS AS IT HAS THROUGH 11 YEARS OF LITIGATION. LIKE CHRISTMAS FASNY WILL ALWAYS BE A TRADITION IN WHITE PLAINS.

THE NEW YEARS EVE BALLDROP OF THE PAST IN WHITE PLAINS NY USA–JANUARY 2012

THERE IS NO BALL DROP IN WHITE PLAINS IN RENAISSANCE SQUARE PLANNED AT THIS TIME. WHETHER IT WILL BE A BALL DROP WITH NO SPECTATORS REMAINS TO BE SEEN. SO FAR NO VIRTUAL BALL DROP HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED BY THE CITY

GREENBURGH HAS OPTED OUT OF RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA CAFES, BUT APPROVED DISPENSARIES.

THREE TOWNS HAVE OPTED IN, THREE TOWNS HAVE OPTED OUT.. GREENBURGH MADE AN EXTENSIVE EFFORT TO EDUCATE CITIZENS ABOUT THE CANNABIS POSSIBILITIES AND VOTED 4 TO 1 TO APPROVE DISPENSARIES BUT NOT RECREATIONAL CANNABIS CAFES BEFORE THE DECEMBER 31 DEADLINE. IT IS MY INFORMATION THAT THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS IS NOT TAKING UP THE ISSUE BEFORE DECEMBER 31, EFFECTIVELY APPROVING BOTH DISPENSARIES AND CANABIS .

THE CITY HAS NOT RELEASED ANY INFORMATION ON WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED AT SUCH ESTABLISHMENTS. I INTERVIEW PAUL FEINER, SUPERVISOR OF GREENBERG THIS THURSDAY AT 8 ON PEOPLE TO BE HEARD ON FIOS CH. 45 AND OPTIMUM CH.76 AND MR. FEINER TELLS ABOUT THE PROCESS OF HOW GREEMBERG CAME TO ITS DECISION.

I ALSO LEARNED ABOUT CHOICE OF NEW YORK, A NON PROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT REACHES OUT TO THE HOMELESS. THE ORGANIZATION BASED IN WHITE PLAINS HELPS 2,500 PERSONS WHO NEED HELP WHOM THEY PLACE IN TEMPORARY RESIDENCES AROUND THE COUNTY AND CONNECT THEM AND SMOOTH THEIR WAY AS THEY TRANSITION OUT OF REHAB, PRISON, OR BECOME HOMELESS FOR OTHER REASONS.
