WPCNR CAMPAIGN 2020. fROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE. JUNE 23, 2020:

TODAY is Primary Election Day in Westchester County. Due to the pandemic the number of polling places has been reduced to three, the Westchester County Board of Elections, the North Castle Community Center, and White Plains High School. (Editor’s Note: There are three nominating contests: the 17th Congressional District, the 93rd Assembly District, and Westchester District Attorney, located on the back of your ballot. The Democratic Presidential Primary is on the front of the ballot.)

If you are uncertain where to vote, call the Board of Elections at (914) 995-5700 or visit the Board’s website at: citizenparticipation.westchestergov.com.  

You may determine your polling place by entering your residence address. Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Remember to wear your mask!

The most recent data provided by the county Monday indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1,809.The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 53. The County’s “active” number is based on positive cases over the last 2 weeks. The number of new cases each day remains very low.

 Today, Tuesday, June 23rd, Westchester County enters Phase 3 of the reopening process. In this phase, restaurants and food service establishments may open for indoor dining with restrictions, and personal care services, including nail salons, spas, and massage therapy, may also open with restrictions.

Pools Open July 1

Both Kittrell and Gardella pools will open for residents only on July 1st. Reservations will be required, as will a pool pass. Check cityofwhiteplains.com, for more information.

WPCNR’S PROGRAM “PEOPLE TO BE HEARD” interviewed all five Democratic primary candidates for the 93rd New York Assembly Candidates back in March and early April.

The last two candidates were interviewed in the last two weeks you can see their interviews on wwwwpcommunitymedia.org.

In order for the first three interviewees to comment on the coronavirus situation and challenges and how the first three candidates would handle them, WPCNR has interviewed the first three interviewees centering on the new coronavirus situation that is challenging the state.

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents June 18, 2020

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1,801.

The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 59. The County’s “active” number is based on positive cases over the last 2 weeks. The number of new cases each day is very low, none were reported today.

While the data in White Plains and in the county as a whole continue to be positive it is essential that people remember to wear their masks inside public establishments and when they are likely to be within 6 feet of others when outside. Recent studies have confirmed that the wearing of masks is effective in reducing the spread of the virus and may prove vital in preventing a second wave of illness. Please continue to wear your masks; it’s a sign of respect for others. Remember: I wear my mask to protect you, and you wear your mask to protect me.

This Tuesday, June 23rd is a Primary Election Day in Westchester County. For those who are eligible to vote, in-person voting will be offered at the Westchester County Board of Elections on 25 Quarropas Street and White Plains High School from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM at both locations. If you are uncertain where to vote, call the Board of Elections at (914) 995-5700.

Early voting for the June 23rd Primary has also started. The early voting location in White Plains is the County Board of Elections. Early voting hours are:

Friday, June 19th: 8 am to 4 pm

Saturday, June 20th: 12 pm to 5 pm

Sunday, June 21st: 12 pm to 5 pm

WPCNR THURSDAY GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO CORONAVIRUS BREIFING. By John F. Bailey, June 18, 2020 UPDATED WITH CUOMO ON NEW NONCOMPLIANCE PENATIES. SUPPLEMENTED WITH QUESTIONS COMMUNITIES SHOULD ANSWER IN REMAKING THEIR POLICING 3:10

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo held his final coronavirus briefing today until further notice.

He announced stern penalities for establishments that ignored social distancing and masking rules. He will sign an executive order requiring communities and cities to close establishments failing to comply with social distancing, and IMMEDIATE termination of liquor licenses for restaurants failing to enforce the distancing rules, such as those restaurants last weekend where 25,000 patrons phoned the governor’s office with complaints on distancing and mask enforcement.

The governor said it was up to cities and towns to enforce those rules (presumably reporting to the state).

He said all was good news on the continued decline of coronavirus new infections in the state.

At the news conference after the briefing, he said he was considering a quarantine restriction on persons flying into New York area airports.

At the news briefing, he said he had made no budget decisions yet on cuts, because he expected the federal government would not continue to hold bankruptcy of states as an option because as the governor said, “the Dow Jones average would drop like a stone,” and their reelection would be endangered.

Tomorrow he expected to make the final decision on whether New York City could move to Phase 2 on Monday. He said the experts that analyze the daily numbers were telling him the trend is good and it look good at this time for New York City. All New York Boroughs of 5 days of infection rates at the 1% or below level.

He said that one area of the state the Central Region had an uptick in infections to 3 %. The Governor said the tracing system in place to track the contacts of new infections, “worked” and was able to isolate the breakout to an apple processing plant in Oswego.

He began the briefing by thanking the members of his panel that has appeared at the 110 briefings he has held, calling them the most professional staff he had ever worked with in his government career.

At the close of the briefing, he thanked the reporters, many of whom have attended every day, saying he respected them, and felt their hard questions helped people understand the seriousness of the coronavirus threat.

The Governor said 59 million people have watched his daily briefings.
