2024 MEMORIAL
White Plains, NY – August 27, 2026. The City of White Plains will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on Friday, September 11, at 8:30 a.m. at Liberty Park on Lake Street.
Liberty Park is the site of the White Plains 9/11 Memorial, honoring the sacrifices made by so many and specifically the six White Plains residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Our annual Remembrance Ceremony includes remarks from Mayor Justin Brasch, prayers from faith leaders in our community, and a wreath laying. Members of the White Plains Common Council will also place flowers at the Memorial as we read the names of those we lost, followed by a moment of silence.
This year in recognition of the 25th anniversary, the city will plant and dedicate an October Glory Maple tree. Maples have come to symbolize peace and strength – ideals we continue to strive for. The October Glory also represents resilience and adaptability in difficult times. This memorial tree will stand as a living reminder of those we lost and our enduring commitment to remember.
“September 11 is always a solemn day of reflection, but on this anniversary we pause to remember a day that forever changed our country, as well as the lives of so many in White Plains,” said Mayor Brasch. “Time can never dull the pain of that day, but we will reflect on the sacrifices and recommit ourselves to service to our country and each other.”
The Remembrance Ceremony is open to the public. All are encouraged to attend to honor our nation, the lives lost, and those whose lives continue to be affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
