A Fairwell to Arms: Hillary Clinton’s Concession Speech: We must continue to defend values of equality, freedom of religion, and “Fighting for what is right is worth it.”

The following is a transcript of Mrs. Clinton’s concession speech given at about noon this morning in New York City, November 9, 2016:

Thank you. Thank you all. Thank you. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Very crowded room.

Thank you my friends. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so very much for being here and I love you all too.

Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans. This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for. And I’m sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country.

But I feel, I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together. This vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energized campaign. You represent the best of America and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

I know how disappointed you feel because I feel it too. And so do tens of millions of Americans who invested their hopes and dreams in this effort. This is painful and it will be for a long time. But I want you to remember this: our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love and about building an America that’s hopeful, inclusive and big-hearted.

We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought.

But I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead. Our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power. And we don’t just respect that, we cherish it.

It also enshrines other things: the rule of law, the principle that we are all equal in rights and dignity, freedom of worship and expression. We respect and cherish these values too. And we must defend them.

And let me add, our constitutional democracy demands our participation, not just every four years, but all the time. So let’s do all we can to keep advancing the causes and values we all hold dear. Making our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top, protecting our country and protecting our planet and breaking down all the barriers that hold any American back from achieving their dreams.

We spent a year and a half bringing together millions of people from every corner of our country to say with one voice that we believe that the American dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people and people with disabilities – for everyone.

So now, our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to build that better, stronger, fairer America we seek. And I know you will.

I am so grateful to stand with all of you. I want to thank Tim Kaine and Anne Holton for being our partners on this journey.

It has been a joy getting to know them better and it gives me great hope and comfort to know that Tim will remain on the front lines of our democracy, representing Virginia in the Senate.

To Barack and Michelle Obama, our country owes you an enormous debt of gratitude. We thank you for your graceful, determined leadership that has meant so much to so many Americans and people across the world.

And to Bill and Chelsea, Mark, Charlotte, Aidan, our brothers and our entire family, my love to you means more than I can ever express. You criss-crossed this country on our behalf and lifted me up when I needed it most, even four-month old Aidan who traveled with his mom. I will always be grateful to the creative, talented, dedicated men and women at our headquarters in Brooklyn and across our country.

You poured your hearts into this campaign. For some of you who are veterans, it was a campaign after you had done other campaigns. Some of you, it was your first campaign. I want each of you to know to know that you were the best campaign anybody could have ever expected or wanted.

And to the millions of volunteers, community leaders, activists, and union organizers who knocked on doors, talked to neighbors, posted on Facebook, even in secret private Facebook sites…I want everybody coming out from behind that and make sure your voices are heard going forward.

To everyone who sent in contributions as small as five dollars and kept us going, thank you. Thank you from all of us.

And to the young people in particular, I hope you will hear this. I have, as Tim said, spent my entire adult life fighting for what I believe in. I’ve had successes and I’ve had setbacks – sometimes really painful ones. Many of you are at the beginning of your professional, public and political careers. You will have successes and setbacks too. This loss hurts. But please, never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it.

It is. It is worth it.

And so, we need you to keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives.

And to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me, I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion.

Now, I know, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling but someday, someone will and hopefully sooner than we think right now.

And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable, and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.

Finally, finally I am so grateful for our country and for all it has given to me. I count my blessings every single day that I am an American. And I still believe, as deeply as I ever have, that if we stand together and work together with respect for our differences, strength in our convictions and love for this nation, our best days are still ahead of us.

Because you know, you know, I believe we are stronger together and we will go forward together. And you should never, ever regret fighting for that.

You know, scripture tells us, “Let us not go weary in doing good for in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” So my friends, let us have faith in each other. Let us not grow weary, let us not lose heart. For there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do.

I am incredibly honored and grateful to have had this chance to represent all of you in this consequential election.

CNN’S JOHN KING IN ANALYZING THE VERY CLOSE CONTESTS IN MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN AND PENNSYLVANIA, SHOWED THAT THE CLINTON CAMP HOPES OF TAKING THOSE THREE STATES WITH HEAVY CLINTON VOTES FROM DETROIT, PHILADELPHIA AND MILWAUKEE WOULD NOT BE ENOUGH TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE. KING DID THIS WELL IN ADVANCE AND SHOWED YOU THE NUMBERS.

SECRETARY CLINTON  CONCEDED TO MR TRUMP IN A TELEPHONE CALL AT 2:40 AM., (AFTER IT BECAME CLEAR THAT PENNSYLVANIA, MICHIGAN AND WISCONSIN FELL TO TRUMP), SAYING IT WAS “CLEAR SHE WAS NOT GOING TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”

SHORTLY THEREAFTER, MR. TRUMP TOOK THE MICROPHONE AT HIS ELECTION NIGHT HEADQUARTERS, AND CONGRATULATED MRS. CLINTON ON HER “HARD-FOUGHT” RACE AND HER “LONG YEARS OF SERVICE” AND THAT THE NATION “OWES HER A GREAT DEAL OF DEBT.” 

TRUMP SAID IN HIS  SPEECH,  ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONCESSION PHONE CALL, THAT “AMERICA WOULD SEEK PEACE NOT HOSTILITY.” 

“I want to tell the world community that while we will always put America’s interests first, we will deal fairly with everyone, with everyone. All people and all other nations.

 We will seek common ground, not hostility; partnership, not conflict.”

 HE SAID IT WAS HIS JOB TO BRING THE COUNTRY TOGETHER AND HE WOULD SUCCEED AND BE THE PRESIDENT FOR  ALL AMERICA.

HE INTRODUCED GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE OF NEW JERSEY, SENATOR JEFF SESSIONS, FORMER NY MAYOR RUDY GUILIANI  FOR THEIR SUPPORT IN HIS CAMPAIGN. AND FINISHED, PLEDGING HE WOULD DO THE JOB FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT HE PROMISED. “WE’RE  GOING TO GET TO WORK IMMEDIATELY.”

LISTENING TO POST ELECTION COMMENTARY THIS MORNING, IT APPEARS THAT AGREEMENT AMONG THOSE SPEAKING ABOUT THE FUTURE INDICATES THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION WOULD LOWER THE CORPORATE TAX RATE FIRST AND BEEF UP AMERICA’S DEFENSE, NOMINATE A JUDGE FOR THE SCALIA VACANCY ON THE SUPREME COURT, THEN DISMANTLE OBAMA CARE.

IN LOCAL ELECTIONS, STATE SENATOR GEORGE LATIMER WON A SECOND TERM, DEFEATING JULIE KILLIAN OF RYE, AND SENATOR CHARLES SCHUMER WAS REELECTED TO THE NATION’S SENATE, DEFEATING WENDY LONG. SENATOR SCHUMER BECOMES THE SENATE MINORITY LEADER.

DAVID BUCHWALD RETURNS TO THE NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY(HE WAS UNOPPOSED). ANDREA STEWART-COUSINS RETURNS TO THE NEW YORK STATE SENATE. SHE, TOO, WAS UNOPPOSED.

Cyber Criminal Charged in Scheme to Steal $1.5 Million from Government Institution

On October 27,  a complaint was unsealed charging Dwayne C. Hans, a United States citizen, with wire fraud, computer fraud, and money laundering.

According to the complaint, between April 2016 and July 2016, the defendant masterminded a series of frauds against a U.S. financial institution in which he masqueraded as an authorized representative of that institution.  Using that ruse, he transferred funds from the financial institution’s corporate bank accounts for his own use.

The defendant also accessed a website run by the U.S. General Services Administration without authorization and then redirected money intended for the financial institution to his own bank account.

The defendant’s initial appearance was held  before United States District Judge Thomas O. Rice at the U.S. Courthouse in Spokane, Washington.  The court scheduled a detention hearing to determine whether the defendant will be held in custody pending his removal to the Eastern District of New York for further proceedings.

The charges were announced by Robert L. Capers, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and William F. Sweeney, Jr., Assistant Director in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI).

As alleged in the complaint, the defendant stole $134,000 from the financial institution and attempted to steal approximately $1.5 million more.

Posing as someone authorized to conduct financial transactions for the financial institution, the defendant misappropriated money from corporate bank accounts to buy shares of stock in publicly traded companies, invest in a real estate property in Brooklyn, New York, and benefit his family members.

He also conducted an unauthorized intrusion into the website SAM.gov, which stores information about companies that provide services to the federal government.

During this unauthorized website intrusion, the defendant changed information in entries pertaining to the financial institution, including by replacing the bank account information for the financial institution with the defendant’s personal bank account information.

As a result, the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation sent more than $1.5 million to the defendant instead of the financial institution.  These fraudulent wire transfers were reversed once they were detected.

The defendant was arrested in Richland, Washington, on October 26, 2016, pursuant to a criminal complaint issued in the Eastern District of New York.

“Cybercriminals scour the internet for information they can use to steal with impunity,” stated United States Attorney Capers.  “They threaten to undermine our confidence in the internet and in the cyber world, on which we rely each and every day.  The arrest announced today sends all would be cyber criminals a message – we will find you, and we will bring you to justice.”

“Criminals who exploit the internet to commit crimes think they can hide behind the virtual veil of a computer screen.  But just as today’s charges remind us that everyone is at risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime, so too should the public be reminded that the FBI will continue to be a major force in confronting those who think they can evade the law,” stated FBI Assistant Director in Charge Sweeney.

The charges in the complaint are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The government’s case is being handled by the Office’s National Security & Cybercrime Section.  Assistant United States Attorney David K. Kessler is in charge of the prosecution.

THE ELECTION OF HATE. VOTE FOR IT OR AGAINST IT. AND DEMAND PERFORMANCE FROM THE WINNER FOR REAL CHANGE

Good morning, Americans!

The news this morning is showing me ugly pictures of  the America today.

Tuesday is election day. And as Bob Grant, the old WMCA talk show host used to say, “Your vote counts. Use it!”

But use it wisely. Take a good look at what we have witnessed the last year of this terrible campaign for President.

I wrote this column in 2014, when I saw pictures of the townspeople of Murrieta, California blocking a convoy of children from coming to their town, apparently urged to roadblock it  by the town’s mayor, made me shake my head in shame and sorrow at the hate that grows like a field of ugly weeds across the once great land.

Since when is America afraid of children? Since when does America hate children? When are we going to stop chasing down border busters and, instead, change the dynamic:  welcome them with buses to facilities and give them what they come to us because we America are their last hope?

I hated when the Coast Guard turned back the boatpeople years ago. I hated it when Haitians were denied coming to the U.S.  I hate even more the inhospitability of creating an American wall around America.

On July 4, 1776 — when signers of the original Declaration of Independence signed that document in Philadelphia, they knew full well if British authorities found them they could face death for treason against the crown — too many of us have forgotten the second sentence of the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..”

The men who signed their names to this document had parents who had come to the new world because their parents had come to escape repression in England. That’s why they wrote that sentence.

And, yes, I know they had slaves, exploited the slave trade, and the native Americans. That does not take away from the truth of the words in that sentence I just quoted. The operative word is “all.”

With this sentence they were declaring that in their new country there would not be the oppression of the past. The hate of the past.

Sadly, the beauty of this second sentence in the Declaration of Independence is lost on the America of Hate today. Each day you see, scorn for the plight of children running across our borders from persons who should know better; fingerpointing at persons who are in this country illegally because they came from where they had nothing, because they speak a different language and try to understand ours,   at the same time exploitation of illegals and legal persons too in our restaurants, our businesses, our stores who hire them off the books and make fortunes on their backs, giving no health benefits, a legal worker is entitled to receive.

There is GNN…”The Ghoul News Networks” who cover every  revenge shooting we average two a week in America lately and spend days titillating us with televising the grief of those whose loved ones died–a practice which unfortunately is not good for the mental health of persons who are troubled who I firmly believe are inspired by the media exploitation of mass shootings (because its easy rather than report on solutions).

Coverage of shootings glorify them and is piously defended by the media quest to know why they happen. News reporters, look at your tapes! You’ll see why violence is in vogue! You promote it–inadvertently.

They even reported a knife-wielder threatening the TV show,  Good Morning America. I’d beef up security on Jimmy Fallon soon after that stupidity of reporting the incident. Their argument is always, “It’s news!” But it’s not–it’s sensationalism to get viewers.

There is the “Never Do Anything” Congress in Washington who listen to their lobbyists and donors and do not do what should be done– pass an immigration law which should not kick persons out in any way — but get them into the workforces legally so they can pay taxes, receive benefits from employers.

Do they do that…..Nooooooooooo–because that would cost big businesses too much money and end the bonanza of an expolited workforce– the slavery of today. I once worked in a restaurant where they paid me 90 cents an hour. They imported Puerto Rican men to work 6 days a week, for less. I will never forget the hovels they were housed in in the back of the restaurant.

Our leaders buy into the “penance period,” of witholding voting, citizenship until illegals do their time leave and come back. Even those who are here legally face incompetent, endless approval times for citizenship because of the incompetence of the immigration agency.

That extended penance period is promoted by the white supremacist capitalists in power in this country and forget their parents were immigrants once, too.

The power elite in the Republican and Democratic Parties that have with their greed wrecked our economy…Supremacists clinging to their power by “buying” the weakest people in America: elected officials. They influence our feckless elected officials with money and sophist arguments to make the illegals have to wait for citizenship.

It reaches right down to the roots…right herein Westchester where illegal housing festers. This cowtowing by government to the realty and businesses at the suffering of those who work the hardest, and who have to know two languages while most of us only know one.

Locally, we are very good at keeping illegal residents packed into two-family homes, exploited in shabby conditions in Battle Hill in White Plains, in the Fisher Hill Neighborhood and elsewhere.

Contributions to political parties are carefully designed to assure the overcrowded conditions in sweltering rooms make the tenements of the lower East Side of the 19th century look spacious.

Where are the sweeps by the City of White Plains to get rid of these people traps? Talk about quality of life? What about fire inspections once a month in multi-family homes? That might change things. Dream on.

Why do organizations designed to help newcomers who speak Spanish promote residences that are overcrowded? (I have seen copies of the lists). The lists are available for the city to go to every place and inspect them. They don’t.

And just once, I’d like the Common Council to hold a conference on cleaning up illegal housing in White Plains. They never have in the 17 years I’ve run this website. How do they sleep at night?

What do they and Westchester County and New York State do? Lots of tax breaks for businesses to come in and establish businesses in our cities. For which the taxpayer pays.

However, America does care if white persons anywhere in the world are victimized. We definitely champion them. But we do not get upset at the continuing violence in Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan — Ukraine–Bangladesh, Istanbul.

When American businesses shirk taxes by shipping jobs overseas, we have abetted this, contributing to the drain of manufacturing jobs.

When banks screw up and lose $6 Billion, just lose it, without explanation. Nothing is done to them. No banker czar or tycoon went to jail except Bernie Madoff.

When businesses break the law, they do so, and admit no wrongdoing when lightly slapped on the wrists by the attorney general.

I was in a hospital Monday to be there for a person undergoing a procedure. The nurses were of all races. All spoke English. The anesthesiologist was Indian. The surgeon was Indian. They dealt with their patients deftly, with compassion and understanding.

I want to assure the people of America that the children will not hurt you. They will not take your taxes. But you unfortunately have failed to do what Americans used to do: put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

The scene in Murietta California two years ago only lacked one thing: the water hoses and the police dogs and the police with clubs stopping the citizens of Murrieta from hurling stones and rocking the buses.

The government was wrong in letting them turn away the convoy, and diverting to San Diego. The Murrieta Mayor should not have incited his town against the border children. He just took a politically advantageous stance to assure his pathetic reelection. Why does government ignore bad behavior by elected officials who should know better?

When elected officials do not stand up for what is right, when they espouse hate against children, as officials in the south did in the early 1960s during the freedom rides, the people have to wonder, how would this person treat me?

The failure of great big American business to rebuild Detroit, New Orleans, and the govenmental snafu on Staten Island after Sandy speak volumes for how the government really feels, how patriotic businesses really are…let alone American business leaders, and the competence of the people who run government departments.

Not only is this now an America of Hate, it is an America of Insecurity, America Without Confidence, and America without know-how, and an America dedicated to its own pleasure.

The stone faces of Presidents of the Past on Mount Rushmore are grim faced for a reason: We have failed their vision.

Vote with wisdom Tuesday and demand more of whom you chose.

Syrian Refugee Resettlement in Poughkeepsie a Secret, Candidate Says

Phil Oliva, the Republican nominee for New York’s 18th Congressional District,  has questioned why no one knew about the impending opening of a Syrian refugee resettlement office in the city of Poughkeepsie.
Church World Service, a partner with the federal government, announced last week that they would be opening an office in the city to help refugees with employment, health, housing services and overall assimilation.
“No one knew about this.  I learned about it after several residents reached out to me. This looks and feels like another example of the federal government imposing its will on local communities.  Whether it’s oil barges on the Hudson, Common Core in the classroom or now, refugees in our community, they decide, we abide,” said Oliva.
Oliva said he has several questions and concerns regarding the new office including: How many refugees are coming? Is Poughkeepsie and Dutchess County their final destination?  Have they been properly vetted?  Who is paying for all of this?  Is this permanent or temporary? Why Poughkeepsie? Why weren’t local officials notified?
Oliva referenced FBI Director Jim Comey who had previously stated that it was “impossible” to properly vet the Syrian Refugees, and National Director of Intelligence James Clapper who said it was a “huge concern” that ISIS fighters could slip in with the refugees.
In addition, Hillary Clinton, if elected President, wants to increase the number of Syrian refugees by 550%
“I have great compassion for any people fleeing violence, but that compassion shouldn’t supersede caution and security.  It shouldn’t supersede important issues we are dealing with in our community,” said Oliva.
Oliva wants to pause the refugee resettlement program until an enhanced vetting system is put in place and he favors, as a better solution, the United States leading a coalition of nations building a safe zone within Syria where non-combatant residents wishing to flee the violence can relocate until the fighting ends.

Rand Realty: Sales Up. Pricing Flat. Inventory decline could turn priced around.

Mike Graessle of Rand Realty in his quarterly notes advises that though sales were up in Westchester County in the Third Quarter that has not helped sales prices.

“Sales activity is strong, with closings up in most areas compared to last year,” Graessle wrote. “We’re starting to see yearly sales totals that rival what we were closing back in the last seller’s market. But the buyer demand hasn’t yet had an impact on pricing, which has been stalled for the past few years.

“Inventory (number of homes on the market) continues to fall. Eventually, accoding to fundamental supply-and-demand economics, that should start driving prices up.”

In Westchester County, the median sales price of a single family home is $619,000 , the average selling price is $867,968 down 3% from last year’s third quarter figures.

Condominium prices are flatter , average selling price is $419,852, down  4.1%,median price is $372,000, down 3/4 of a percent.

The Great Disenfranchisement of 2016. Immigrants here legally not processed in time to vote. Why?

In 6 days the 2016 Presidential Election takes place. But, as the Gannett papers revealed last week over a million immigrants who are here legally who have applied for citizenship in order to vote, are not going to be approved in time to vote. It is to Gannett’s credit they published this story in US TODAY two weeks ago, but I was curious as to why this situtation was allowed to fester and drag out, much to the disappointment of immigrants waiting already seven months or more for approval of citizenship.

Hezi Aris, the editor of the Yonkers Tribune and host of On the Level heard worldwide on Blogtalk radio, has Michael Edelman as a guest on his Monday show every week. Last week after my segment on that show co-hosting with Hezi ended I suggested to Hezi he ask Mr. Edelman what he knew about what caused the delay that have cost thousands hoping to vote the opportunity for another four years.\

I specifically wondered why advocates for the immigrants had not brought this issue to light in a law suit or in a protest.

Edelman told Mr. Aris on the air that “neither the applicants nor representatives of the applicants have legal standing to demand faster approval, and that the government can do just so much considering the budget with which they function, and that no legal force can impose a deadline by which the applications win final approval, by a process  hindered by many applications and no funds to meet the demands.The applicants are not yet citizens, they are applicants only.”

This issue is published just two weeks before the election just when the deadline is past for registering to vote.

So isn’t it convenient that a million possible new voters whose paper work has been filed and accepted have not been handled in an expeditious process, in a Democrat-controlled administration? Why did not President Obama divert some funds to add more personnel to speed the process?

Maybe the government did not want to add new voters to the roles?

Were both Republicans and Democrat elected officals afraid of which way new voters might vote?

Another example of the government’s inability to deal with a problem that is easily fixed by adding more people and gearing up as the applications increased. Didn’t they see this coming?

And why wasn’t this reported prior two weeks before the election?

It’s too late now. The press is almost always too late and cannot see a big story when it is staring them in the face.

And where were the immigration lawyers on this issue? The lawyers who make money helping immigrants here legally apply for citizenship should have brought attention to this.

We handled the Ellis Island immigration in the 19th century better than we handled new citizenship for  legal immigrants in the 21st century.

Another bungle by Washington. Intentional or an accident? What do you think?

NY PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL HUDSON VALLEY RAISES $300,000 AT ANNUAL GALA.

WPCNR UP COUNTY BEAT. From New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. October 31, 2016.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital’s annual Fall Gala on Friday, October 21st was one of its most successful ever, raising more $300,000.  These funds will directly impact the hospital’s future growth and further enhance programs and resources on behalf of patients and their families.

More than 300 supporters attended the gala, held at the Tarrytown House on the Hudson.  For a second year, Darlene Rodriguez, co-anchor of “Today in New York” on WNBC returned as emcee of the event. Guests included New York State Senator Terrence Murphy, NYP and NYP/Hudson Valley Hospital senior leadership, physicians, nurses, employees, and Board members of the Hospital, Foundation and Auxiliary.
