SEPTEMBER 15–SENATOR GILLEBRAND EYEBALLS $38 BILLION SO FAR FOR IRAN WAR AND STILL RISING

GILLIBRAND STATEMENT ON ASTRONOMICAL $38 BILLION COST OF THE IRAN WAR

Washington, D.C. – Today, in response to Congress’ nonpartisan scorekeeper releasing its finding that the war in Iran has cost taxpayers $38 billion so far, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump is wasting billions of taxpayer dollars fighting a reckless war of choice overseas while working families are paying the price.

Americans need relief from sky-high inflation, but this administration is focused instead on dropping bombs, building ballrooms, and appeasing billionaires.

This war is an astronomically expensive disaster that is driving up the cost of gas, groceries, and other everyday essentials that we rely on. I won’t stop fighting to end it and hold this administration accountable for their reckless, dangerous actions.”

SEPTEMBER 14– SENATOR GILLEBRAND AND CEOS OF FOOD BANKS HIGHLIGHT EFFECT OF SNAP COSTS BEING TRANSFERED TO NY STATE

TODAY IN WESTCHESTER: GILLIBRAND, CEOS OF FOOD BANKS STATEWIDE TO RAISE ALARM ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION SLASHING FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SNAP AND THREATENING NEW YORKERS’ SNAP BENEFITS BY TRANSFERRING PAYMENT TO STATES

Westchester, NY – Today at 2:45pm at Feeding Westchester (200 Clearbrook Rd, Elmsford, NY 10523),

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will join CEOs from food banks around the state to inform reporters regarding the change in Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” that will imminently shift billions of dollars in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cost responsibilities from the federal government onto state and local governments.

This change results in major financial burdens on New York State.

The change, which is slated to take effect on October 1 and is part of a broader slate of harmful cuts to the SNAP program, will reduce the federal share of SNAP administrative expenses from 50% to 25%, with states and localities now responsible for covering 75% costs.

Counties in New York State are expected to be on the hook for $168 million annually as a result, with Westchester County being responsible for an additional $4.5 million to keep SNAP-supported programs running.

More than 65,000 people in Westchester County rely on SNAP to feed their families each month. Without this additional federal support, counties may be forced to raise local taxes or slow down the review of SNAP applications.

SEPTEMBER 14– GOVERNOR HOCHUL SENDS ENERGY REFUND CHECKS ON THE WAY TO 8.2 MILLION NY-ERS

NEW RATE HIKE PROCESSES IN PLACE MAKING UTILITIES JUSTIFY EXPENSES (RATE INCREASES)

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that energy rebate checks up to $200 will be sent to 8.2 million households across New York State starting on September 21. Checks will be mailed directly to eligible New Yorkers, with deliveries to continue through December. There is no need to apply, sign up or do anything to receive a check.

“As Washington Republicans continue to send the cost of everything from utility bills to gas and groceries soaring, I’ll never stop working to address the rising cost of living for New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “Too many families are struggling with rising household energy bills and soaring gas prices at the pump — and that’s why we’re putting money directly back in New Yorkers’ pockets by sending energy rebate checks to millions of families as part of our affordability agenda.”

Governor Hochul’s enacted budget included a one-time $1 billion Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate (POWER) to help provide needed relief in the face of federal tariffs that have increased the cost of living across the board and President Trump’s war in Iran that has New Yorkers now paying on average $4.35 per gallon at the pumps, a 45% jump since the war began. Diesel has jumped 49% since the war began at the end of February to $5.98 per gallon.

POWER checks will provide $200 to joint filers with incomes under $150,000 and $150 to joint filers with incomes between $150,000 and $300,000. Single filers with incomes under $150,000 will receive $100. The rebates will be issued as advanced credit checks and will be mailed out between September and December.

Who’s Eligible for a POWER Check?

You are eligible for a rebate credit check if, for tax year 2024, you:

  • Filed a timely New York State Resident Income Tax Return;
  • Were a full-time resident for New York State;
  • Reported income within the qualifying thresholds; and
  • Were not claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.

New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Commissioner Amanda Hiller said, “Power checks are another meaningful way that Governor Hochul is trying to help people during challenging economic times. At the Governor’s direction, the Tax Department is working to get this much-needed relief to eligible families as quickly as possible

Post-COVID, the Governor announced $1.17 billion in one-time funding to allow nearly half a million residential customers and 56,000 small businesses to pay off unaffordable past utility bills, the largest utility customer financial assistance program in state history.

All told, since taking office in 2021, Governor Hochul has prioritized making life easier for New Yorkers. That includes more than $7.6 billion that has been provided toparticipating households in direct utility bill relief, including the energy rebate checks, and an additional $1.4 billion to support residential weatherization, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects that will help lower energy usage and bills for participating households.

This year, Governor Hochul put in place an Energy Affordability Agenda to help address rising utility rates.

Governor Hochul’s Energy Affordability Agenda

Governor Hochul’s FY27 Enacted Budget rewrites the rules and puts New York families ahead of big energy companies. At the heart of this effort to modernize the State’s approach to regulating utilities is a commitment to ensuring energy remains affordable.

Energy profits are tied to a company’s ability to perform where it matters most: people’s wallets.

Utilities are prohibited from passing the costs of lobbying, glossy PR campaigns, political donations, and luxury travel to New York ratepayers. Utility CEOs will have their salaries benchmarked to achieving energy affordability goals set by the Public Service Commission (PSC). And if a utility makes excess profit, that money will be returned to ratepayers.

The Governor’s Ratepayer Protection Plan:

  • Stops disruptive price hikes before they take effect in the first place by demanding unprecedented fiscal discipline and transparency from utility companies. When requesting a rate increase, utilities will have to prove that their capital projects are absolutely necessary and that they’ve left no stone unturned in the pursuit of zero-emission options. They’ll also have to present a budget-constrained option that keeps their operating costs below the rate of inflation.
  • Ensures a fair fight by requiring 14 months to examine rate requests by utility companies and the PSC will be able to set multi-year rate cases when they make sense for consumers. The State’s regulators will also heavily scrutinize the fees that utilities run up during the process of determining new rates. The goal is to ensure customers aren’t shouldering any costs associated with utility rate cases that aren’t legally required.
  • Requires the establishment of a new energy affordability index that will expose the true impact of utility rates on everyday New Yorkers, benchmarking utility performance here against those in the rest of the nation. Going forward, utilities will be required to demonstrate exactly how any proposed rate hike will impact this index — and if a rate case pushes the average household energy burden above 6 percent, the State will be able to deploy an independent Affordability Monitor directly into the utility’s boardroom.

Additionally, the FY27 Enacted Budget establishes a RATES Commission to combat rising utility bills. New Yorkers are facing real pressure from the rising costs of energy, and addressing these price spikes requires a clear, independent examination of how energy prices and costs are passed onto consumers. The newly established RATES Commission will bring together consumer advocates and energy experts to investigate the root causes of surging utility bills, evaluate utility profits, and review energy market designs.

SEPTEMBER 14—PERSPECTIVE ’26 COMMENTARY TRANSCRIPT FROM WHITE PLAINS WEEK FRIDAY REPORT

NOW MY PERSPECTIVE ’26 THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 11,2026

I AM NOT SHOWING ANY PICTURES OF THE 9/11 HORROR THAT IS STILL WITH US.

IT IS ALWAYS WITH US LIKE PEARL HARBOR, D-DAY THE DROPPING OF THE ATOMIC BOMB –EVENTS THAT ALL TOOK PLACE IN WARS.

9-11 WAS AN ATTACK THAT TOOK CIVILIAN LIVES IN AMERICA FOR THE FIRST TIME AND IT IS THE MOST PERSONAL ATTACK.

IT WAS SPAWNED BY A MOVEMENT SEEING AN ATTACK OF SUCH RUTHLESSNESS AS A MEANS OF ACHIEVING RESPECT AND LEADERSHIP AND A FOLLOWING IN ITS WORLD. ITS LEADERS BETRAYED OUR TRUSTS.

THE COVERUP WAS EXPOSED BY THE FIRST WHISTLE-BLOWING MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY EVER, ZORAN MAMDANI.

HE WAS SO SHOCKED THAT OFFICIALS OF THE CITY WOULD HIDE THIS INFORMATION  ON TOXIC AIR AND SO MANY REPORTS OF EXPOSURES THAT HE RELEASED THE REPORTS.

HE EMBARRASSED, HUMILIATED, EXPOSED THE ADMINISTRATIONS OF THE LAST 25 YEARS IN NEW YORK CITY AND IN WASHINGTON.

THIS IS NO POLITICAL WATERGATE. NO FINGERPOINTING OVER COVID. THIS WAS A DECEPTION THAT PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT IT.

THEY ERRED ON WHAT TELLING THE TRUTH MIGHT DO TO ENCOURAGE LAWSUITS.

IF THE GIULIANI PEOPLE ARE RIGHT THAT IT WAS THE EPA THAT TOLD THEM IT WAS SAFE — WELL THAT IS THE ADMINISTRATION AT THE TIME OF WASHINGTON D.C.

WERE THEY INCOMPETENT? EXPEDIENT? DID NOT JUST CARE?.

I BELIEVE IT TO BE THE LATTER.

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU SAY. IT’S WHAT YOU DO.

THEY DO NOT CARE IN GOVERNMENT. BUT WE KNOW MAYOR MANDANI DOES. THANK YOU MAYOR MANDANI FOR YOUR COMING UP BIGTIME IN THE CLUTCH FOR TRUTH JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY

THE CRITICISM OF MANDANI FOR EXPOSING THIS COVER UP OF THE CENTURY IS SHAMEFUL.

THE GOVERNMENTS OF NEW YORK CITY AND WASHINGTON DID NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR OWN WORKERS. WHO THEY CELEBRATED FRIDAY: POLICE. FIRE. UNION MEMBERS FOR THEIR COURAGE.

THE HARDEST LESSON AMERICA LEARNED WAS NOT TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2001, BUT ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2026 WHEN MAYOR MANDANI  PUT THE TRUTH OUT THERE AND SHATTERED ANY NOTION THAT YOUR GOVERNMENTS CARED FOR YOU AT ALL THESE 25 YEARS.

THE OTHER LESSON OF 9-11 IS ITS IMPACT CONTINUES TO BE HARDER BIGGER EVERY YEAR.

THE HATING GETS WORSE. THE RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND NATIONS DECLINES. THE HUBRIS, COWARDICE, AND YES STUPIDITY OF THOSE ELECTED GROWS. VIOLENCE AND UNPROVOKED ATTACKS PROLIFERATE NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. SENSELESS SHOOTINGS.

YOU CAN SEE IT IN THE FAILURE TO PROVIDE TIMELY FIGURES ON THE SPREAD OF MEASLES, COVID IN NEW YORK AND COAST TO COAST. THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN UPDATE ON COVID CASES IN WESTCHESTER IN 7 WEEKS. NEW YORK IS WAY UP  IN COVID, SO ARE NASSAU AND SUFFOLK COUNTIES. WESTCHESTER COUNTY DOES NOT KNOW WHERE IT IS ON COVID.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THE EXPERTS HANDLED 9-11 AIR TOXICITY THEY IGNORED IT. THEY PRETENDED THAT  IT WAS GOING TO BE O.K.

THAT 9-11 LIE IS BEING REPEATED. WITHOLDING INFORMATION. FALSE INFORMATION. OPINION NOT FACTS. MANIPULATED STATS IT’S ALL BACK

I WILL NEVER FORGET 9-11, BUT MAKING WORKERS FEEL IT WAS SAFE TO WORK THE PILE, HOW COULD ANY RESPONSIBLE PERSON DO THAT?

BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE.

IN THE 25 YEARS I HAVE REPORTED ON WHITE PLAINS WEEK THIS IS THE SHOCKER OF THE CENTURY.

THIS IS JOHN BAILEY REPORTING FOR WHITE PLAINS WEEK…GOOD NIGHT….AND THANK YOU.
