SEPTEMBER 29– CITY OF WHITE PLAINS AND SUSTAINABLE WESTCHESTER PARTNER TO PUSH ENERGY EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

City of White Plains Partners with Sustainable Westchester on

Energy Education & Awareness

White Plains, NY – September 28, 2026. The City of White Plains is pleased to announce a partnership with Sustainable Westchester to provide residents and local businesses with educational opportunities focused on energy savings, clean energy options and ways to prepare for and protest against rising energy costs.

“We are pleased to work directly with Sustainable Westchester and support their efforts to bring energy education and workshops to our residents,” said White Plains Mayor Justin Brasch. “Through awareness we can create change one step at a time and make White Plains a greener, more sustainable place to live.”

Partnering with Sustainable Westchester will help connect residents and local businesses with information about new technologies, available incentives, and practical ways to make energy choices that are both environmentally responsible and cost-effective.

Throughout the coming months, Sustainable Westchester and White Plains will offer a series of education opportunities open to the public, including:

October Event:

The Home Energy Savings Workshop

On October 22nd at 6:30 p.m., Sustainable Westchester’s EnergySmart Homes team will be at the White Plains Public Library to discuss ways to reduce energy bills, weatherize homes, and electrify appliances. The workshop will also include information about navigating rebate programs offered by New York State, ConEd, and Sustainable Westchester. All attendees will receive a free D.I.Y. energy savings kit to use in their home, apartment or business.

More Information at https://sustainablewestchester.org/the-home-energy-savings-workshop.

Upcoming Events:

Preparing for Winter Temperatures

Sustainable Westchester and the White Plains Department of Public Works will demonstrate simple ways to prepare homes and apartments for colder temperatures. The program will include tips on weatherproofing, preventing and handling frozen pipes, and safely heating your home or apartment.

Home Energy Audits

Sustainable Westchester can help residents arrange home energy audits with qualified professionals who can assess how efficiently a home or apartment is operating and identify potential upgrades that could help save both energy and money.

The partnership will also include neighborhood Home Energy Audits, giving local residents an opportunity to open their homes to neighbors to see what an energy audit looks like and learn what questions to ask when evaluating their own homes.

Energy Savings Simplified

With the cost of heating and electrifying homes continuing to be a concern for many households, understanding available incentives and energy-saving opportunities can be challenging. Sustainable Westchester will help residents learn about available rebate programs, discounts, and other cost-saving opportunities, including who is eligible and how to apply. Programming will also explore how newer energy technologies can provide both environmental and financial benefits.

Additional programs and event details will be announced as they are finalized.

SEPTEMBER 28– GOVERNOR HOCHUL CELEBRATES START OF THE GATEWAY TUNNEL

First Tunnel Boring Machine To Launch in Coming Days

First New Tunnel Underneath Hudson River Since the Holland Tunnel Was Opened in 1927;

Project Will Serve 200,000 Daily Riders Between New York and New Jersey

Governor Kathy Hochul today celebrated the start of tunnel boring for the Hudson Tunnel Project by the Gateway Development Commission (GDC).

Following the ceremonial launch, final testing will be completed and the first tunnel boring machine that will be used to build the new train tunnel under the Hudson River will begin digging the new connection between New Jersey and New York Penn Station.

A second machine will launch soon after. This historic moment marks the start of the first phase of tunnel boring for the Hudson Tunnel Project — the first new rail tunnel under the river in more than 100 years. It is the culmination of more than a decade of planning and nearly three years of construction work.

“Building a new rail connection across the Hudson River has been a dream for over a generation, one that would improve reliability and resilience for over 200,000 daily riders who power our economy,” Governor Hochul said. “We fought and beat efforts from the Trump administration to halt the Gateway project and today, that dream becomes a reality, with state of the art machinery operated by expert union workers starting their journey through soil and bedrock under the Hudson to Penn Station. This is a historic day for New York and a clear demonstration of our ambitions to once again be a state that dreams and builds big.”

The two tunnel boring machines launching this fall will bore approximately one mile through the hard rock under the Palisades Cliffs in New Jersey to the Hudson County Access Shaft in Weehawken. These two machines will be removed via the access shaft and replaced with a second pair of machines that will build the section of the tunnel under the Hudson River.

The two hard-rock tunnel boring machines are expected to build roughly 30 feet of tunnel per day, including scheduled pauses for maintenance. They will reach the Hudson County Access Shaft approximately one year after launching.

The first phase of tunnel boring is being completed by Schiavone Dragados Lane JV as part of the contract for the Palisades Tunnel Project construction package. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is managing delivery of this construction package in partnership with GDC.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said, “I spent years in Congress fighting for the Hudson Tunnel Project because it is the most important infrastructure project in the country. Now, tunnel boring is beginning on the first new rail tunnel under the Hudson in more than a century. I was proud to be called the ‘tunnel-obsessed Congresswoman,’ and as Governor, I will keep fighting until this tunnel is built, so 100,000 jobs will be delivered, and millions of New Jersey commuters and travelers finally have the reliable service they deserve.”

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer said, “From Day One on Gateway, I have said: If we dig it, they will come. ‘They’ being millions of passengers, and freight, and goods and services, flowing into and out of the heart of the New York-New Jersey region and pumping the veins of every nook and cranny with billions of dollars in economic energy. Who says infrastructure is boring? This astounding machine will carve the first new rail tunnel under the Hudson in more than a century, keeping tens of thousands of union workers on the job and creating a vitally needed crossing that hundreds of thousands of commuters depend on every single day. The Gateway Hudson tunnel is the most important infrastructure project in America, period, and I will keep fighting until the job is done.”

U.S. Senator Cory Booker said, “This milestone is a major step toward fulfilling the Hudson Tunnel Project’s two-track tunnel and giving New Jerseyans the dependable rail infrastructure they’ve waited decades for. Millions of people depend on the Northeast Corridor every day to get to work, to school, and back home to their families. I’m proud to help deliver a project that will lower costs, strengthen our rail system, boost reliability, double capacity, and make commutes better for generations of New Jerseyans to come.”

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said, “Building a stronger New York means strengthening our transit and infrastructure systems. Working families and commuters have been waiting for over a decade for us to deliver on our promise of creating more efficient transportation, and this phase marks more than a vow to start — it marks a vow to finish. I will continue fighting for funding towards landmark projects like the Hudson Tunnel to keep riders on track.”

SEPTEMBER 27—PERSPECTIVE ’26 TRANSCRIPT FROM WHITE PLAINS WEEK SEPT. 25

NOW MY PERSPECTIVE ’26 VIEW OF THE NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

YOU KNOW, I CANNOT REMEMBER ANY MAYOR OF THE PAST IN WHITE PLAINS WHO HAS TAKEN STRONG STEPS TO SAVE THE HOMELESS FROM THEIR MISERABLE EXISTENCE OF WORRY, HUNGER, INFERIORITY, RESENTMENT AND ALL TOO EASY PREY TO DRUG SUPPLIERS, ALCOHOL ADDICTION, LOSS OF THEIR CHILDREN, BEING EVICTED BY UNSCRUPULOUS LANDLORDS.

FOR AROUND 30 YEARS NON-PROFITS HAVE HOUSED THEM AT GREAT EXPENSE RELYING ON THE PUBLIC DONATIONS TO KEEP THEIR SERVICES AND KINDNESS GOING.

MAYOR BRASCH AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSIONER  HARDY AND THE ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS FORMING THE WP-CARES INITIAVE ARE COMBINING  ORGANIZATIONS TO SOLVE THIS THREE DECADE PROBLEM

THEY HAVE TO DO MORE TO FIGHT THE RECIDIVISM OF THE UNHOUSED INDIVIDUAL BY KEEPING THEM ON TRACK WITH MORE FOCUS ALSO TRAIN THEM FOR JOBS WITH WAGES THEY CAN SUPPORT THEMSELVES.

RECRUIIT MORE EMPLOYEES TO BE COMPANIONS TO THE INDIVIDUAL.

BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR THE UNHOUSED NOT JUST AID TO HOUSE THE REGULAR EMPLOYED WHO CAN’T AFFORD HOMES.

THE BOTTOM LINE: THE CITY, ITS CITIZENS MAY HAVE TO RAISE MORE FUNDS FROM THE STATE FROM THE COUNTY, FROM THE GOVERNMENT (AS PENURIOUS AS THE PRESENT REGIME IN WASHINGTON IS).

THE CYCHLORPHINE ADDITIVE MORE DEADLY THAN FENTYNAL IS A WAKE UP CALL.

IT WILL REACH NEW YORK.

BEWARE OF THIS THREAT BECAUSE CYCHLORPHINE WILL KILL YOU VERY QUICKLY.

CYCHLORPHINE IS  A CANARY IN YOUR GRAVE TO THE NATION’S DRUG CULTURE.

DRUG DEALERS ARE  DEALERS IN DEATH NOW.

INTERDICTION DRUGS, ARRESTS AND LIFE PRISON TERMS FOR DRUG DEALERS WHO SELL THE PILLS THAT KILL WITH NEW POTENT DESIGNER DRUGS  HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED.

NO MERCY FOR FIRST TIME DRUG DEALING ARRESTS. IT IS NECESSITATED BY THE DRUG DEALERS TO THE WEALTHY AND FAMOUS  NOW SELLING DEATH TO THEM. DEATH TO OUR CHILDREN IN TEENS AND TWENTIES.

THE YOUNG STARS WHO THREW AWAY THEIR LIVES FOR ALCOHOL OR DRUGS ARE NOT TRAGEDIES. THEY DID NOT VALUE THEMSELVES. THEY WERE ON THE TOP OF THE WORLD ADMIRED BY MILLIONS WHO UNFORTUNATELY  MAY EMULATE THEM. THEY WERE MURDERED KNOWINGLY BY THEIR DRUG SUPPLIERS.

THE PERSONALITIES IN ENTERTAINMENT HAVE TO MAKE THIS A CAUSE THAT FIGHTS DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE IN THE HIGH LIFE.  ONLY YOU CAN DO THIS BY SETTING AN EXAMPLE. “REAL STARS DON’T DO DRUGS.”

I SAW THE MISFITS AT THE BURNS THIS WEEK.

I HAD NEVER SEEN THE MOVIE WITH MARILYN MONROE, CLARK GABLE, AND DIRECTED BY JOHN HOUSTON. IT WAS IRONIC THAT IT WAS THE LAST MOVIE EVER MADE BY MS. MONROE and MR. GABLE.

I WAS READING ABOUT HER MAKING THE MOVIE  AFTER I GOT HOME. SHE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS AS SHE AND ARTHUR MILLER THE WRITER OF THE SCRIPT WERE GETTING A DIVORCE.

MONROE WAS HOSPITALIZED A COUPLE OF TIMES DURING THE MAKING OF THE MOVIE AND SHE WAS TAKING  MEDICATIONS AT THE TIME. TEMPERATURES WERE OVER 100 DEGREES WHERE THEY WERE SHOOTING. SHE WAS A REAL TROOPER. SO WAS CLARK.

MARILYN MONROE WAS A VICTIM OF SHOW BUSINESS. RIDICULED BY CRITICS AS A BAD ACTRESS. A SEX SYMBOL.

IN MISFITS SHE PUT ON AN ACADEMY AWARD PERFORMANCE UNDER PRESSURE SO DID GABLE.

MONROE SPENT A LIFETIME UNDER PRESSURE. NO ONE LOVED HER ENOUGH. PERHAPS DIMAGGIO DID.

IN THE END, SHE SHOWED THEM ALL WITH HER  GREATEST PERFORMANCE. WHICH OF COURSE GOT INITIALLY BAD REVIEWS. (IT WAS TOO GOOD A MOVIE AHEAD OF ITS TIME.)

WE SHOULD ALL LOVE OURSELVES MORE BUILD OUR CONFIDENCE BY SAYING “I CAN DO THIS” AND “DO IT” AND “KNOW YOU DID IT .”

IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE DEATHS OF SO MANY CELEBRITY ENTERTAINERS IN FILM IN TELEVISION WHO ARE DYING IN THEIR 20S AND 30S IT MUST BE ABOUT NOT LOVING YOURSELF ENOUGH OR NOT BEING LOVED ENOUGH.

YOU DO NOT NEEED A HIGH TO BE HAPPY. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF AND DOING WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO.

THIS IS JOHN BAILEY REPORTING FOR WHITE PLAINS WEEK…GOOD NIGHT AND THANK YOU
