New Temporary Traffic Pattern at Library Parking Garage

Beginning Monday, November 9, drivers parking at the Library Garage will follow a new route to exit. This temporary change will allow construction crews to continue rehabilitation work and expand to new areas of the garage.

Crews will begin repairing the slabs surrounding the ramps connecting the upper and lower levels with the street. The work will cover three locations, one at a time, and is expected to take four to six months to complete.

TRAFFIC CHANGES:

To maintain safety and traffic flow, the following temporary traffic plan will be in effect:

Entry: Drivers can continue to enter the garage from Martine Avenue and use both the upper- and lower-level ramps.

Exit: All vehicles – regardless of which level they park on – must exit through the lower-level exit tunnel onto the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (MLK) and Main Street.IMG_2370

Martine Avenue Exit Closed: The exit onto Martine Avenue will be completely unavailable for outgoing traffic while the work is underway.

DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS:

Please drive slowly and remain alert for construction crews at work. Temporary signs will be posted throughout the garage to guide drivers to the MLK Blvd. exit. Please follow all posted signs.

These plans and routes are subject to change given any updates to site conditions. Any further changes will be communicated and updated signage will be posted.

CONSTRUCTION WORK:

Rehabilitation work began at the Library Garage in spring 2026. The garage has remained open throughout the process, with parking spaces closed only in areas where work is underway or where structural repairs are scheduled.

To date, crews have primarily focused on repairing the columns in this below-ground garage. Ramp and column repairs will continue concurrently.

The upcoming ramp work will address three distinct locations in the garage. During repairs at the first two locations, drivers will continue to use the regular entrance from Martine Avenue and then exit through the tunnel to MLK Blvd. When work moves to the third location, drivers will enter using what is normally the exit onto Martine Avenue and continue to exit through the tunnel to MLK Blvd.

Once all three locations have been repaired, the garage will return to its regular traffic pattern, with vehicles able to enter and exit via Martine Avenue.
