Hits: 18

Westchester County is taking another major step to expand affordable housing with a more than $10.27 million investment that will help bring a new 154-unit affordable housing development to White Plains.
The County will provide up to $8,810,000 to acquire approximately one acre of property at 90-114 Westmoreland Ave., where The Sheffield will be constructed. The County will also provide up to $1,562,500 for infrastructure improvements needed to support the development. Once the property is acquired, it will be transferred to the developer for $1 to allow construction to move forward.
The approximately $114.7 million project will create 154 affordable apartments, including 26 studio units, 92 one-bedroom units and 36 two-bedroom units, along with approximately 5,000 square feet of neighborhood retail space and 238 parking spaces. The apartments will serve households earning between 30% and 80% of the Westchester County Area Median Income and will remain affordable for at least 50 years.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said:
“Affordable housing continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing families across Westchester County. That’s why we’re making strategic investments that help turn plans into real housing opportunities. The Sheffield will provide 154 affordable homes in a transit-accessible community while creating opportunities for working families, young professionals, seniors and others who want to continue building their lives here in Westchester.”
