Waller-Maple Parking Garage to Temporarily Close Starting October 19
White Plains, NY – October 16, 2026. Beginning Monday, October 19, the City of White Plains will start work on the long-needed rehabilitation and improvement of the Waller-Maple Parking Lot. During the initial construction, the lot will be temporarily closed.
The City understands that this closure may inconvenience residents and patrons of downtown businesses and will work to complete the project as efficiently and safely as possible.
When prolonged winter weather limits the ability to work, construction will pause, temporarily reopening the lot. If necessary, final work will resume in the spring.
The Waller-Maple Lot has been in need of improvements for years, and this project will address those needs while making the lot safer, more accessible and more attractive. The rehabilitation of the lot is part of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and has been approved by the Common Council. The Department of Public Works has worked with a consultant to develop the plans and has met with business and property owners to understand their concerns and needs.
Project Improvements
In October, crews will begin necessary below grade work.
The project will also focus on hardscaping, including the installation of retaining walls along the raised outdoor patios, new sidewalks, and designated pedestrian areas and islands. Currently the lot lacks sidewalks and pedestrian routes making it difficult and sometimes unsafe to cross the lot or access the raised patios.
The new islands will accommodate updated parking kiosks and connect to pedestrian crosswalks throughout the lot. New sidewalks along the business side of the lot will provide a continuous route for pedestrians while creating separation between parked vehicles and business entrances. Together, these improvements ensure the lot continues to meet accessibility requirements.
Once the improvements are made, the lot will be resurfaced and restriped. When completed the lot will have improved overhead lighting, an updated parking app and more prominent signage connecting both the Waller-Maple Lot and the Lyon Place Garage. New landscaping, including planters and trees, will further enhance the appearance of this well-used property.
During construction, the businesses and residences that use the Waller-Maple Lot will remain open. A path for pedestrian access will be provided.
